You need a pick of some sort to bust up stone and get through metal coverings. I wound up actually getting the hide I needed for a bellows from the day 5 dog horde. Which they're a pain in the arse to hunt and you only get 1 hide per rabbit. Since it would seem pigs, deer, and bear don't spawn in the desert, I had to rely on rabbits for hide. But it would finally give you the ability to have a pick before setting up a forge.Ī story: I live in the desert in my most recent playthrough and with world gen making biomes bigger than ever, any other biomes was quite a few days walk. Which making a pick axe out of rocks is not a concept that makes sense. Logically speaking, if we wanted steel fire axe/shovel then we would need a stone pickaxe. Steel Armor wouldn't go amiss, either.īut if I can play devil's advocate, it kinda makes sense. I agree and want a full compliment of steel tools as well.
